A Book About Casual Sexism
It’s Not Funny I It’s Sexist
What is Casual Sexism?
Casual Sexism is a form of discrimination that is often subtle, indirect, and disguised as jokes, compliments, or concern. It can affect both women and men in the workplace, but it is more common and harmful for women. Casual Sexism can undermine women’s confidence, performance, and career advancement, as well as create a hostile and unsafe work environment.

I am writing a book about Casual Sexism in the workplace because I have experienced it myself, and I have seen how it affects many other women in different fields and positions. I have faced sexist comments, jokes, stereotypes, assumptions, and expectations from my colleagues, managers, clients, and partners. I have also witnessed how some women internalize these messages and doubt their abilities while others suffer from stress, anxiety, or depression.
I know how hard it is to deal with Casual Sexism, especially when it is normalized or ignored by others. I know how it can make you feel angry, hurt, humiliated, or powerless. I know how it can make you question your worth and your choices.
But I also know that you are not alone. You are not the problem. You are not overreacting. You have the right to speak up and stand up for yourself and others. You have the power to change the culture and the system that allows Casual Sexism to exist.
That’s why I created this book: to expose this pervasive and insidious problem and to empower its victims and allies. To give voice to all the women in the workplace who have to deal with microaggressions every day. To share their stories and their strategies for coping with or challenging Casual Sexism. To offer practical advice and solutions for recognizing, resisting, and reporting Casual Sexism.
I want to hear from you, whether you are a woman or a man, a leader or an employee, a victim or an ally. Your stories will help me to illustrate the different forms and impacts of Casual Sexism and to offer practical advice and solutions for dealing with it.
